Gujarat Titans won a humdinger of a contest against Rajasthan Royals. Chasing a target of 197 the Shubman Gill-led side romped home on the last ball of the match when Rashid hit a boundary with Gujarat needing two runs to win. This was Gujarat’s third win in six matches this season which took them to the sixth spot in the points table.

The Effort

The chase for the Titans was led by captain Shubman Gill who scored 72 runs off 44 balls to keep his team in the hunt while wickets kept following at the other end.

Other than Shubman cameos from batters like Vijay Shankar, Sai Sudharshan, and Shahrukh Khan helped Gujarat get close to the target. But it was the partnership between Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan that proved to be a game-changer as the duo added 38 runs for the seventh wicket.

Captain’s Corner

However, it was Gill’s reply to Harsha Bhogle during the post-match presentation that caught everyone’s attention. Bhogle asked, “Well done you got two points today. But one i must admit some of us thought you left it too late but well done today.”

“Thank you, when GT is playing don’t think like that”, Gill bluntly replied.

The Plan

Gill said that the team had a plan as to how to approach the chase. In the words of Gill “We were targeting 45 in 3 overs and it is very much gettable and that was the mindset at that time. Mathematically both batters needed to hit 22 off 9 balls and that’s how the thinking goes and if one batter goes berserk that will do.

The Praise

The captain also praised Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan for their match-winning performances. “I would have loved to finish the game, but very happy with Rahul and Rashid bhai for finishing the job for us. Winning the ball off the last ball is always a great feeling. He (Rashid Khan) is someone who you always want in your team, he is such a competitor,” he said.
