India to Tour Ireland for Two White Ball Games in JuneImage Credit: X

India will play a two-game white-ball series against Ireland in Ireland in June, according to a report in Cricbuzz on Friday (March 20).

The Schedule

The BCCI is exploring a way to squeeze a short white ball series against Ireland, dates of which are yet to be confirmed but accring to Cricbuzz the matches can take place in the fourth week of June as India’s homeseries comprising of four matches (Three ODIs and One Test) against Afghanistan ends on June 20 and the team’s white ball tour of England starts on July 1.

The Challenge

Scheduling the series against Ireland will be a challenge for the BCCI, as the Men in Blue will have to reach England three or four days before the start of the first game, which will be played on July 1 and in all likelihood won’t be able to leave India before June 20, which is the date for the last game of the home series against Afghanistan meaning that board will have only a ten day window to squeeze the proposed white ball games against Ireland.

The Option

India has played two white-ball series, T20I to be precise, against Ireland in their own backyard since 2022, with the selectors preferring to give chances to new faces on both occasions because of the very reason that there was a short turnaround time between the tour of Ireland and the next series or tournament, something which they can do this time around as well.

The Return

If we take various factors into consideration, including the commercial spect and the short time in which the series is expected to be conducted, India might end up playing two T20Is. If the case remains so, it will mark the return of the T20 World Cup winners for the first time since lifting the cup.
