Vaibhav Sooryavanshi took the 2025 season of the IPL by storm with his fearless approach at the top of the order, hitting the second ball of his IPL career for a six against Lucknow Super Giants and following it up with the second-fastest century in the history of the league against Gujarat Titans.
The Performance
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi backed his performance in IPL at the U19 level as well, with significant contributions in bilateral series against Australia and England, and started the year with a tournament-winning innings against England in the final of the U19 World Cup.
Expert’s Corner
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s consistent performances seem to have impressed former South African captain AB de Villiers, who praised the batter for his maturity.

What They Said
Talking to Jitesh Sharma on his YouTube channel, AB de Villiers said, “He’s a great player. I watched him in the Under-19s. It’s not always easy when you get the taste of IPL and big cricket, and still show the same kind of standard. I was very impressed with the way he played in that World Cup. Very professional. He’s very mature for his age.”
The Praise
The former RCB batter was of the opinion that he would become more professional with time. “I’m talking about the way he played. He still kept to his game plan. He played the same way he played the IPL. Didn’t try to be something else. He wasn’t arrogant against the bowlers. But he will get professional.”
The Take
AB de Villiers reply was a reaction to Jitesh Sharma’s cheeky take on Sooryavanshi when he said, “He’s not professional. I can tell you that. Everyone is trying to get him to be professional, but I don’t think he will ever get professional. He may be on the field, but off the field, he won’t. I’m trying my best. I ask him not to have ice cream at night.”
