Uncertainty Over MS Dhoni and Dewald Brevis’ Participation Remains Intact Despite the Duo Hitting the Nets Ahead of the First Home Game Against PBKSImage Credit: X

Five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings have received some good news ahead of their first home game of IPL 2026 to be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday (April 3) against the Punjab Kings, with former captain MS Dhoni and young South African batter Dewald Brevis hitting the nets on the eve of the contest.

The Fitness

However, it remains to be seen if MS Dhoni and Brevis are included in CSK’s playing XI for the upcoming game. If we talk about the fitness of both players, MS Dhoni suffered a calf strain before the start of the season and was initially ruled out for the first two weeks. Brevis, on the other hand, is nursing a side strain.

The Update

When asked for an update regarding the recovery of Dewald Brevis, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad said in the pre-match press conference that he is not sure about Brevis’ fitness.

In the words of Gaikwad, “He’s taken off today, so I’m not really sure. Yesterday, we didn’t have a chat.” Brevis, however, was indulged in a short run training in the practise session.

The Wait

Ruturaj said that an update regarding MS Dhoni’s availability will be provided on the 13th, as the wicketkeeper batter was ruled out for the first two weeks. Having said that, MS Dhoni did walk out in the nets to face throwdowns and smashed few balls in the stands as well, just before the conclusion of the press conference.

The Combination

It is to be noted that Matthew Short batted in the middle order in CSK’s season opener against Rajasthan Royals in the absence of Dewald Brevis, while Sarfaraz Khan came in as an impact substitute.
