LSG succumbed to a six-wicket loss against Delhi Capitals in the fifth of the 2026 edition of the indian Premier League played at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

The Match

Put in to bat first by Delhi Capitals, Lucknow got off to a slow start as the Rishabh Pant-led side lost a couple of wickets in the first six overs, scored 48 runs and was reduced to 71 for 5 in 9.3 overs.

The Partnership

LSG was in desperate need of a partnership in order to post a respectable total on the board, and that is what Abdul Samad and debutant Mukul Choudhary did by adding 34 runs for the sixth wicket, which was followed by another partnership of 33 runs for the sixth wicket between Samad and Shabaz Ahmed, who came in to bat at number eight as an impact substitute.

The Bowling

If we talk about DC’s bowling performance, it was a collective effort with every bowler chipping in at different stages of the game to keep the opposition batters in check.

The Performance

The bowling effort of DC was led by Lungi Ngidi and T Natrajan, both of whom picked up three wickets each and were well supported by the spin bowling duo of Kuldeep Yadav and captain Axar Patel, by picking three wickets between them, resulting in LSG getting bowled out for 141 runs inside 20 overs.

The Reply

Chasing 142 runs, Delhi got off to a shaky start by losing 4 wickets for 26 runs in the first six overs and, like LSG, needed a partnership to get back in the game, which was provided by the pair of Sameer Rizvi, who was sent in to bat at number four as an impact substitute and Tristan Stubbs.

The Rebuild

The duo added 119 unbeaten runs for the fifth wicket and took the team over the line with Rizvi scoring a fighting half-century after not being able to put bat to ball in the first ten or so balls.

The Chat

This was LSG’s fifth consecutive loss against DC in IPL, after which LSG’s owner, Sanjeev Goenka, was seen having an animated chat with captain Rishabh Pant.

The Reaction

Fans were quick to react to this conversation and drew parallels with a similar kind of chat Goenka had with former LSG captain KL Rahul after the team’s loss against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2024.
