English fast bowler Jofra Archer is keen on playing in the 2024 T20 World Cup scheduled to take place in June this year. Having last played for England early last year Archer has been nursing various injuries in the last couple of years. The fast bowler who featured for MI in the 2023 season of the IPL was ruled out in the middle of the tournament due to an elbow injury which has troubled him for quite a while now.

Player’s Corner

In the words of Archer “Last year I played from January to May. I think the year before that, I played maybe one or two games for Sussex, so you know I’ve had a whole year of nothing. “Come June 1 I really do want to be in the team. I really do want to be playing back at home, in front of my family and probably in front of… I know it’s not dog friendly in the Caribbean as much as it is here in the UK, but I’d love my family and my dogs at that first game back,” he further added.

The Plan

Talking about the possibility of retirement Archer said “It’s been a while and honestly, I don’t know if I’ve got another stop-start year in me. That’s the truth, I don’t know if I’ve got another one.”

The Scenario

Archer didn’t participate in the 2024 IPL auction to be fully fit for the T20 World Cup. It would be interesting to see whether Archer if deemed fully fit is included in England’s 15-member squad for the multination tournament given the fact that the Jos Buttler-led side looks pretty settled and the only possible spot available is that of Test captain Ben Stokes who made himself unavailable for selection in the shortest format in international cricket to manage his workload. Having said that batters like Phil Salt and Harry Brook are in line for grabbing the spot which makes Jofra’s chances of making it to the final 15 minimal

The Chances

While the scenario might change in the future Archer can still make it to the squad as travelling reserve like he did during the ODI World Cup last year.
