Indian selectors are set to face a dilemma when they meet to select the Indian Test team for the new World Test Championship cycle starting in June this year with India’s Tour Of England. The reason for their dilemma would be the form of two senior Indian batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

The Form

The former and current Indian captain had a below-average tour of Australia. Virat Kohli could score only one 50-plus score in the 10 innings in which he batted, while captain Rohit Sharma seemed like a walking wicket and was unable to score a single half-century in six innings of the three matches he played on the tour.

The Reaction

The Poor performances of the two senior players have sparked strong reactions from former Indian cricketers like Irfan Pathan and Sunil Gavaskar as the two slammed the out-of-form baters for not playing domestic cricket.

The Report

The rant which went viral on social media has caused a strong reaction from the BCCI. According to a report in Dainik Jagran, it is being said that Virat and Rohit are in no mood to retire anytime soon as a result the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar is set to face a dilemma when they meet next to select the Indian Test team for the tour of England in June 2025.

What They Said?

“The officials of the team are also unhappy with the defeat. The team going through a difficult phase of change will now have to do a lot of introspection after returning home. When asked about this, the top BCCI official said I was listening to Gavaskar and Irfan after the match. When asked about Virat and Rohit, he said there are no indications that these two will retire from Tests on their own. BCCI cannot even ask them to retire, but something will have to be done for the team’s betterment. Certainly, when the time comes, the selectors will take the right decision,” read the report.
