Many Bangladeshi journalists have claimed that they were denied media accreditation following Bangladesh’s decision to pull out of the T20 World Cup.

The controversy involving Bangladesh doesn’t seem to have settled even after the ICC decided to replace them in the upcoming tournament.

This time, it is the Bangladeshi journalists who have come forward with the revelation that they are finding it difficult to file an application to get a media accreditation, or that their accreditation has been revoked after completing all the formalities.

According to a report in the Daily Star, BCB media committee chairman Amzad Hossain said that around 130-150 Journalists from Bangladesh filed for an accreditation, all of whom have been denied.

In the words of Hossain, “As far as I know, all Bangladeshi journalists were rejected. Around 130 to 150 journalists applied this year, but none received accreditation.”

It was also mentioned in the report that the media accreditation of some journalists, which was earlier approved, was also cancelled.

The report quoted journalist Mir Farid as saying, “I received an approval email from the ICC media department on 20 January, which included a visa support letter. But today I received another email saying my application was rejected.”

Another Journalist Afifur Rahman Babu, who covered the 1996 World Cup, also reiterated the same thing. According to Afifur, “Even if a team is not playing, journalists from an ICC Associate Member nation can still receive accreditation. I find no reason why everyone was rejected. I am surprised, and I strongly condemn and protest this decision.”

Afifur, who happens to be the president of the Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association (BSJA), said that he will talk to the Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA) and the Bangladesh Sports Journalists Community (BSJC) before deciding on the steps to be taken in the future.
