The BCCI has been compiled to bring back an old rule following India’s disappointing run in Test Cricket especially in the last couple of series against New Zealand and Australia. The rule which was scrapped when teams were forced to stay in a bio bubble due to COVID-19 allowed the players to bring their families and wives on tours with them especially on overseas tours as it was argued that spending time with family helps the players to overcome the on-field pressures and keeps them mentally fresh.

The Rule

According to a report in Dainik Jagran the BCCI has decided to revert back to the old rule of not allowing the players to bring their families with them, especially on overseas tours for more than a specified period. The report says that a player can stay with his family and wife for not more than 14 days for a series or tournament that lasts for 45 days. The time period was reduced to 7 days for shorter tours.

The Instruction

The board has also given strict instructions to players to only use the team bus for traveling and avoid traveling separately which has become a common practice in the last couple of years. “Keeping in view the team unity, now all the players will travel by the team bus only. No matter how big a player is, he will not be allowed to travel separately,” read the report.

The Action

Action has also been taken against Gautam Gambhir’s manager Gaurav Arora who has been traveling with the team which is the first instance where anybody other than the members of the team or the team management is travelling with the team. Following the recent turn of events strict action has been taken against Gaurav Arora and he has been banned from using the team bus. He won’t be able to stay in the same hotel where the Indian team will be staying and won’t be sitting in the VIP boxes in the stadium either.
