Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has made himself available for Mumbai’s next Ranji Trophy match scheduled to begin from January 23 an MCA source told Hindustan Times about the development. “Yashasvi Jaiswal has confirmed that he is available for the match against Jammu and Kashmir. The selection committee will be meeting by the end of this week to pick the squad,” an MCA source said.
The Decision
The move comes after the BCCI instructed the players who are not a part of the five-match T20I series against England to play in the next round of the Ranji Trophy following a below-par performance in the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy which India lost by a margin of 3-1. Although Jaiswal was among the top run scorers for team India in the series with 391 runs in 10 innings he decided to play domestic cricket which seemed quite strange considering the workload he endured in the five-match series.
The Initiative
As far as the availability of other players who were a part of the India team during the tour of Australia is concerned middle order batter Sarfaraz Khan won’t be able to play in the match against Jammu & Kashmir owing to a rib injury an MCA source told Hindustan Times “Sarfaraz has injured his ribs and has informed us about his unavailability for the next Ranji Trophy match,” the MCA source said. On the other hand Indian captain Rohit Sharma was seen in the nets practicing with Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy Team ahead of their next match.
The Practice
If we talk about Rohit’s practice the right-hander began with center wicket practice and faced the fast bowling of Shardul Thakur, Royston Dias, and Mohit Avasthi with slip cordon in place. He punished the bad balls but resisted the temptation of going for expensive drives. He was a bit more aggressive against spin as he swept and reverse-swept the left-arm spinner and off-spinner Tanush Kotian. The Indian captain batted alongside former Indian captain Ajinkya Rahane who is also grinding it out in domestic cricket to get back into the Indian test team.
